Stress in the Workplace
Work-related stress has been identified at international, European and national levels as a major concern for both employers and employees. (Framework Agreement on Work-related Stress, 2004)
Stress is the leading cause of productivity loss in the workforce. Between 50 and 60% of all work days lost are due to stress (European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, 2000)
Proactive measures are required to address the increasing negative affects of work-related stress, which is estimated to costs more than 20 billion euro annually (European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, 1999), a figure that is almost certainly understated.
Policies benefiting worker health also benefit the bottom line (US-NIOSH)
